There has been a lot of speculation in recent years about the continued validity of web directories and whether they still have a place in search engine optimisation. A directory is a hierarchical list of links commonly grouped into logical categories. In the early days of the Internet and search engines the number of sites linking to a particular site was used as the main factor in determining the value of a website. This lead to the creation of link farms which were basically no more that sites that just contained pages of links, similar to directories. Most modern search engines now instantly recognise link farms and penalise or ignore them from search engine listings.

Many people still find directories a useful resource when looking for things on the Internet although with the arrival of social bookmarking sites they have stiff competition. A well maintained directory can not only be useful resource for any site visitor but also provide valuable inbound links to a site.

Category Selection

Page rank is still valid for Google at the moment, although it seems to have less value now, and is an important aspect in deciding which category your site should reside in a directory. An example is could be if an automotive directory has a sub category of custom parts and accessories with 11 links in it and another sub-category of paintwork with only 4 links in it then paintwork would pass more page rank to your site. However something to bear in mind is that relevance also plays an important part of the category selection.

What is a good directory?

To determine whether it is worthwhile submitting to a directory it is probably worth asking yourself whether whether in the absence of a search engine you would personally use that directory? If the directory is full of broken links or irrelevant or poorly written content then it is unlikely to be worthwhile. The good folk at Google sometime manually adjust their index to remove or lower the value of anything that appears to be a ‘spammy’ directory.

There is a lot of debate over paid and free directories and their value as a web-resource. Both types of directory should have equal value in the face of a search engine however paid directories tend to be better maintained as they usually have a team of moderators checking each submissions. Free directories generally depend upon volunteers which lead to people playing the system to allow their own links to be submitted to the directory.

Recognised Directories

There are many directories that are recognised as ranking well in the main search engine algorithms but the main two that most people will come across are DMOZ and the Yahoo! directory.

The DMOZ or Open Directory Project was founded in 1998 and was created in the spirit of the GNU software foundation and was intended to be a completely ‘open’ directory maintained by a team of volunteers. The index is well maintained to this day and is regarded by Google as a trusted source.

There has been a suspicion for some time that Google now uses a trust rank to filter out spam from its index. It is believed that it does this by selecting a few known good sites from around the web which are known to have a good stance on rejecting spam. The trust rank then emanates from these sites and filters through the Internet giving each site a trust rank in a similar way to the page rank.

Since the DMOZ is one of these sites getting listed into the index is very valuable indeed, although near impossible to do! Another directory commonly regarded as worth while for submitting to is the Yahoo! directory. A site can be submitted to this directory as either a free listing or a paid listing. It is always worth a free submission but acceptance is fairly rare and you often have to pay the 9 yearly fee.

If the site is for a particular niche market then such as, say, car customising and modification then it is definitely worth submitting your site to a niche directory. The reason for this is that is the traffic coming from niche site will be extremely relevant to the content provided by your site. Something that is often overlooked is that these directories may capture traffic for keywords and phrases that hadn’t been previously considered. Since the indexes in these sites are generally fairly small the chances of a visitor to the directory reaching your site is fairly high.

Although submitting to all the various directories can seem like a momentous task it is unfortunately still valid in order to get anywhere near the first few pages in the search engine results.

7 Tips for Good Link Building with Directories

Without a doubt, one of the most important aspects to any SEO campaign is building quality back links. But creating a good network of links takes both time and research – remember to put quality before quantity. One of the most common places to acquire high quality links is through both paid and free directories.

But with the thousands, if not millions of directories online, which are the most valuable to link to?

Here are a few quick tips to help determine a valuable directory:

1. Determine the Page Strength

And I’m not just talking about Google PageRank. It’s been known for awhile that the simplified PageRank (which is most commonly seen in the Google Toolbar) is not actually your real PageRank; that is a much more complex number kept by Google. Although don’t delete your toolbar just yet, PageRank can be a good first impression. If a directory, especially a paid one, has a PR below 2, chances are it’s not worth the link.

Another common form of page ranking is the Alexa Ranking System. Like Google PageRank, it’s more of a safety net than a valuable resource, but generally directories which fall below the 100,000 mark on the Alexa scale are going to be worthy of a link.

I prefer to use the LinkScape tool over at seomoz to determine Page Strength. It provides more detailed data than both Google PageRank and the Alexa Ranking. They offer a number of free tools, but if you’re serious about pursuing SEO, you should definitely sign up for a PRO account.

Here are some things to keep in mind when evaluating Page Strength:

Don’t Just Check the Page Strength of the Home Page
Is your link going to be placed on the homepage of the directory? Chances are no.

Check the Page Strength to the Page Your Linking To
Before submitting a link, find the page on the directory where your link will appear. Look to see how the links are organized (a lot of them do it by PR, some sort on a first-come-first-serve basis; others have a bidding system, etc.). If you’re link is going to end up on a low ranking page of a directory, you probably shouldn’t submit. It’s true the overall strength of the domain will help build your link strength, but the page your link appears on is more important than anything else.

2. How Many Links Are On the Page

How many other links are on the page you’re link will be on?

Too many links on a page can negatively affect their value. If you’re link is going to be added to a page with 100 other links, unless that page has an incredibly high Page Strength, you’re not going to be seeing much benefit.

Stick to directories and categories with a low number of links per page and high Page Strength. Many times you can list your site in a sub-category, or a similar category that contains less links and decent page strength.

3. Is the Directory Indexed?

Is the directory you’re submitting to index by Google, Yahoo, and Bing? If it’s not, it’s pretty much worthless. The only way those links are going to count is if Google, Yahoo, or Bing, says they do.

Here is a nifty trick to see if a site is indexed. Use this string in any search engine: site:http://www.yourwebsite.com the results will be which pages the search engine has indexed.

Google’s Webmaster Tools can provide excellent data on which of your back links are being recognized by Google. A single directory submission can result in a number of quality back links.

4. Use Keywords in the Anchor Text

Adding keywords to your anchor text is highly encouraged, so finding a directory that allows you to use keywords in your anchor text is a definite plus.

A lot of higher profile directories won’t allow you to put anything but your business name in the anchor text, but most of the smaller or mid-ranged directories (that still maintain good Page Strength) will allow you to place keywords and descriptive titles in your anchor text.

Bad Listing: Omikron Media

5. Expensive Directories Aren’t Always the Best Source of Links

It’s true. The most valuable links sometimes come from the most inexpensive sources.

While I would definitely recommend some high end directories like Yahoo or Best of the Web, some of your most valuable back links can be generated from lesser known and much more inexpensive directories.

The Yahoo Directory (9 annually) can provide dozens – in some cases hundreds – of quality back links from a single submission. Best of the Web (9.95 one-time) can provide multiple, high quality back links.

The absolute best directory online for quality back links doesn’t cost anything at all; although getting listed in there is quite a challenge. DMOZ is the largest and most respected human edited directory on the internet; it’s also free. Except getting a link approved could take months, sometimes years, and sometimes never.

6. Purchase Featured Listings

If you’re listing to a directory, especially an inexpensive one, consider purchasing a featured listing. I know a lot of directories will claim that this leads to more traffic to your site, but it really doesn’t. Don’t kid yourself, nobody uses directories for search results; they’re used to build quality back links.

Sometimes the difference of a few dollars can buy a lot more than a single link. Many directories will place featured listings on every page of their selected category; meaning multiple quality back links.

7. Submit Deep Links Where Available

Deep Links are links to your website other than the index page. Every page of your website has the opportunity to rank well in search results, so when you get the chance to submit one, do it.

Some inexpensive directories will allow deep links with a standard or featured listing, take advantage of these offers when available, never deny the opportunity to submit deep links.

I don’t know a thing about you, but it’s now time to link directories. You have probably heard about directories a million times. Yes, you have come across a directory, which of course you want to tell me it’s a book which contains a list of names and probably phone numbers blah… blah… blah…Eeh, Stop there!

I am not talking about this type. Neither about the other ones you have come across apart from the one used to list websites. Directories are site suggestion services in which a fee is paid to expedite the reviews of websites. They are collections of human reviewed websites that have been arranged into topical categories.

Getting your website listed in directories is the best way to build inbound links without reciprocating. You should get your site listed in second tier, major, themed and specialty hubs directories. This is the best way to improve your website ranking on the search engines.

There are 3 Types of Link Directories

1. The Major

Major Link directories are not good since they are costly. They are the oldest.

Major Directories of Two Types:

A. Submit Yahoo.

B. Open Directory Project.

2. The Second Tier Link Directories

This type of link directories are the best compared to major ones. It is easy for your site to get listed in them. You will meet your target of cost cutting because they are cheap. You will get good relevant topics from this type and again your website won’t be invisible by other websites of the same site topic as yours.

Second Tier are:

A. Web Directories.

B. Strongest Links.

C. Info Vilesilencer.

D. Aviava’s Strongest Directories.

3. The Themed  & Niche Hubs Link Directories

As their name suggest, they are themed and they focus on listing websites that are specific. They can list your website with a small amount of money or for free. They are superb because you will be able to get inbounds links from specific topics that are related to your website concept. Of course, these links come from websites that search engine regard as creditable.

Now you have the information, go ahead and link your website to directories.

It is always the first question that clients ask after creating their website, in one format or the other, how do you get traffic from search engines?

I still believe and my first advice is backlinks. In this article, I will not discuss the importance and the power of backlinks; you can look up my articles about backlinks and how to obtain them. However, I want to clarify the difference between search engines and web directories because in most cases your backlinks building project will most likely start from web directories.

If you are trying to get traffic from search engines to your new website, the thing that is most likely to confuse you at the beginning is the difference between search engines and web directories. It will even become more confusing when I tell you that if you need more results from search engines you need to submit your website more to web directories!

Yes, you work more on web directories to get more results from search engines!

As a start, know that even if you are in search engines’ databases, this does not mean you will get traffic to your website. To get the traffic, you will need to be in the top results. I believe that submitting to search engines does not move you any step forward in this prospective.

Well known search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo use very complicated methods to calculate who shows up on the top of results for a specific search term. These search engines, like many if not all others use very complicated software and algorithms to bring websites to their databases and to sort them accordingly. The ultimate goal of search engines is to give the person who is searching for a term a perfect match at the top of the results. If you want an analogy, Google would be perfect as a search engine if the searcher lands on the perfect match for his search term every time without having to press the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.

Unfortunately, computers and therefore software cannot think like humans and hence cannot figure out what exactly a searcher is looking for when he or she types a term. This limitation forces search engines to use what computers are good at doing, “computing”. Computers can count and compare very fast, and that’s basically what search engines does.

Search engines use software called “crawlers” to go out and look on the internet for website. Then after storing it in databases, it compares the data collected to produce and sort the results. This procedure is called ranking.

At the very basic level, the ranking logic is this: because there is billions of websites and because there is millions of results for most search terms, if the crawler finds more instances of a given website around the internet it deduces that this website is more popular. Furthermore, if this website when found is relating more to a specific term, then it is most likely a better choice as a result for that term.

Now, to use this knowledge to the advantage of your website you must do two things to rank higher in search engines:
1- Make your website appear more often on the internet when the crawler is out looking for websites.
2- Make your website relate to the search terms that relates directly to the subject and the content of your website.

Before I go anywhere further, I have to mention that to succeed, these two things are inseparable and must be considered as two parts of the same thing. In other words, if you want your website to rank higher for a specific search term, you must work to get the crawler to find your website more often on the internet and at the same time relating to that term when found.

Among the many ways to accomplish this task, you can start doing that by submitting your website to web directories.

Web directories do not use “crawlers” or any “ranking” methods. If any, they sometimes use sorting such as sorting alphabetically, sorting by the date of website submission or similar. Better web directories are usually better at categorizing websites that are submitted or added to them. The data that web directories collect about websites is very limited when compared to the data that crawlers collect for search engines. The data that is usually stored about a website in a web directory database is usually limited to the website url, website title, a short description and maybe some relating keywords.

The most and foremost difference between search engines and web directories is that web directories are usually built by humans one website at a time (I said usually only because some web directories might clone other directories databases to produce a web directory).

Without going into the details, you must understand that the mass majority of the internet users searching the web use search engines to seek information and products and not web directories. Putting this fact atop the information you now know about how search engines work, you should be able to know why we submit websites to directories.

We submit a web site to a web directory so that when search engine crawler looks up the internet it finds a link to our web site. More web directories listing our web site will mean more popularity in the eyes of the crawler. It is our job in this case to both submit to as many web directories as we can and to make our listing relate to the specific search terms that relates to our website to get quality traffic.

We do that by preparing the data that almost every directory will ask us for when we are to submit a website. That is:
1 – The title that contains the search term that relates to our website.
2 – The short description that will also include the search term or a variation of that term.
3 – Few keywords that relate to the search term and the content of our web site.

It is a good idea to prepare several variations of the search term by researching keywords that relate to our website to include it in the title, description and the keywords of our web directory listing.

You can find thousands of web directories (by using search engines!) so don’t get lazy and keep submitting your web site to every web directory.

After a few months you will start seeing the traffic coming to your website from search engines by submitting to web directories!

Optimizing Your Website for Search Engines and Directories

When consumers use the Internet to learn more about something they’re interested in, they typically start at a search engine like Google or a directory like Yahoo! Your goal is for the consumer to see a link to your Web site before they see one for your competitor. There are two broad methods for achieving visibility. The first is to purchase ad space from the search engine or directory service, which is explained in our article “How to Run Paid Ads on Search Engines and Directories.” The second method involves optimizing your Web site so that it appears near the top of search engines and directory listings, which we discuss in the remainder of this article.

Search engines and directories are two very different animals. A search engine uses an automated piece of software called a robot or spider to find Web sites and index their information; the search engine then uses a proprietary algorithm to rank those Web sites. Optimizing your Web site for search engines is a complex, imprecise procedure. First of all, each search engine uses its own algorithm for ranking Web sites. Secondly, search engine companies don’t reveal how these algorithms work because they don’t want anyone gaming the system (most search engine companies change their algorithms on a regular basis as further insurance against cheating). Popular search engines include Google and MSN.

A directory, on the other hand, is built by human-beings who visit Web sites, assess their content, and decide how each site should fit into the directory’s structure. Popular directories include Yahoo! and The Open Directory Project (ODP) at dmoz.org.

A third category, hybrid sites, combine results from search engines and directories. Some of these sites also mix in paid ads that appear as search results. Popular hybrid sites include Yahoo! and AOL.

The Optimization Process

Even if you already have your Web site up-and-running, wait until you have optimized it before registering with directories and search engines. Because the criteria that determines a high-ranking Web site is different for each search engine and directory, and because the criteria changes frequently, Web site optimization is not a precise science. However, over the years the principles described in our 10-step plan have proven to help businesses improve their rankings.

Step 1: Assess the Competition

Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but when it comes to optimizing your Web site, a certain amount of imitation can also make good business sense. Visit all the key search engines and directories and use them as your customers would. Enter search words; navigate directories; make a note of the businesses that are well-placed in your categories, and then visit their Web sites. Look at the words they use to describe their business; examine their HTML code and create a list of the keywords and META tags they use.

Step 2: Create Your Keyword List

A keyword list contains the most important words that describe your business. Building a good keyword list is vital for good search engine placement but will have little effect on your placement in directories. When building your list, think of the words that customers use when looking for your business, products, or services. Consider including any applicable keywords that your successful competitors are using.

Step 3: Create META Tags

HTML includes a set of META tags that are used to describe the contents of each page on your Web site. META tags are one of the things that search engines look at when categorizing and ranking your Web site, so proper use of META tags is important to optimizing your ranking. The three most important META tags are TITLE, DESCRIPTION, and KEYWORD.

The TITLE tag identifies the contents of the Web page; the TITLE should be accurate and unique for each page of your site and should incorporate one or two of your most relevant keywords.

The DESCRIPTION tag contains a lengthier description of the contents of your Web page; some search engines display the contents of this tag with a customer’s search results (other search engines use an HTML remarks line, if it is present). Each page’s DESCRIPTION should be unique and include relevant keywords.

The KEYWORD tag is a list of your keywords and phrases, each separated by a comma. Do not use the same word more than twice–some search engines consider this spamming and will lower your sites ranking accordingly.

Step 4: Build Great Content

No matter what other techniques you use to improve your Web site’s ranking, they will be ineffective in the long run if you don’t have great content. The content of your Web site should be unique, high-quality, and relevant to your products and services. This is especially true for obtaining a good ranking in directories, because human-beings–not algorithms–are assessing your Web site.

Be sure to use your keywords in the headings and text of your site’s homepage. This is especially important for a good ranking in search engines.

Your content should also be fresh and frequently updated. This is important in determining your initial ranking in directories, and it is vital to your continued ranking in search engines because they spider the same sites repeatedly, and updated content helps you establish credibility.

Ensure that each page of your Web site is unique. If you reuse the same text from page to page, search engines may interpret this as an attempt to artificially improve your ranking, which will result in lowering your ranking.

Step 5: Link to Other Quality Sites

You have spent a lot of time and effort to bring customers to your site, and in general, you want to keep them there as long as possible. However, no one business can be all things to all people, so you can provide a real service to your customers by giving them links to quality Web sites that contain relevant content they are interested in. By providing these links, you can also increase your ranking in both directories and search engines.

When you link to another Web site, make sure that site loads in a separate browser window; this makes it easier for your customers to return to your site.

Step 6: Encourage Other Sites to Link to You

Encouraging other Web sites to link to your site accomplishes several things. Most importantly, it can be a major source of new customers. Also, search engines will give you a better ranking if other sites provide links to you. Some search engines also take into account how popular the sites are that link to you; for instance, a link from CNN.com would be more valuable than a link from someone’s personal Web page.

Many Web sites will be more willing to link to you if you offer a reciprocal link to them.

Step 7: Register Your Site with Directories

At this point you have a complete Web site and are ready to advertise it to the world. Your next step is to submit your site to all the directories, such as Yahoo! and ODP. Registering your site begins the review and ranking process, which may take a matter of days, weeks, or months, depending on the directory. Once you register your site with a directory, visit that directory often to ensure your site is categorized correctly.

When determining your ranking, many search engines will check to see if your site is listed in directories. The more directories your site is listed in, the higher your ranking, so be sure to complete this step before proceeding to the next.

Step 8: Register Your Site with Search Engines

Now it’s time to register your site with the search engines. As with directories, simply registering your site does not mean it will be ranked and available in the search engine. Check with the engine often to ensure your site is listed properly. Search engines constantly revisit the same Web sites to make sure they are still active and to update their ranking, but when you make major changes or upgrades to your site, you should re-register it with the search engines. This will help ensure that you are quickly rewarded for your work.

Step 9: Review Your Web Server Log

Your Web server keeps a log of information that is invaluable for refining your Web site content and shaping your marketing and advertising efforts. For instance, your log file contains information about what search engines or directories your customers are coming from and what search words they used to find you. By keeping successful keywords and replacing unsuccessful ones, you will build your customer base and search engine ranking.

Web server logs can contain hundreds-of-thousands of lines of information, to make the best use of them, you will need specialized software. Some Web hosting companies, make this software available (Verio provides an excellent software package, called Urchin, to its customers for free).

Step 10: Repeat This List Frequently

Building a successful site is a recursive process. As in all aspects of business, you should periodically assess your competition and adjust your efforts accordingly. Adjust your META tags. Rework your keywords. It is especially important to frequently update the content on your site, not only because it improves your ranking in search engines, but because your Internet customers expect it.

It is a well known fact that building back links to your website is one of the most important elements of modern search engine optimization (SEO) of a website. a back link is a link from another website to yours.

Acquiring back links is one of the most painstaking jobs you can do online. It takes up a lot of your time. Many online businesses have been built on this aspect of SEO alone.

There are many submission services springing up daily. Whether it is article submission or director submission. There are also link exchange services of all kinds, free and paid. There is even the occasional article exchange program between webmasters. All to the objective of building back links. That is to tell you how important back links are to your effort at ranking well in the search engines. In fact, the number one search engine Google.com’s algorithm is built around back links.

Back links are of many types.

1. There is the back link that is one way. That is, you get a link to your website without having to link back to the site that linked to you. These are the types you get from doing directory or article submission. Or if your website content is good enough other webmasters will freely link to your content or resource. Or you can just buy your back links from websites selling space on their sites.

2. There is the link exchange. This gives you a back link only if you link back. This is called a reciprocal link. you get these kinds from link exchanges. Either from free or paid ones.

So, how do you build back links to your website using directories. Directories are websites that list other websites according to categories and sub categories. Websites are listed under different topics. Some of the most popular directories are the Yahoo, Google and DMOZ directories.

You can build back links using directories in three ways. Through;

1. Free directories

2. Paid directories

3. Reciprocal directories.

You can get a comprehensive lists of these directories and their page rank at http://www.directorycritic.com To build these back links fast your can either use a directory submission software or you give it to a submission service. Hiring a submission service gives you more time to concentrate on other marketing aspect of your website. But if you think you have the time (it is time consuming), you can purchase a good submission software like submiteaze to do your submission your self.

Using free directories to build back links.

Beware, that using this type of directory to build back link may not produce much. The quality of back links you get is not much. Most free directories are new directories. Their goal is to get other websites to list in their directories so that their directories will be filled up fast with content. Once they get to some certain stage, after two or three months when they have acquired some page rank, they start to charge for listing in their directories.

However, you can get a very good free back link, if you get your site listed in the dmoz.org directory. This is a human reviewed general web directory. There are other quality free directories. You may have to wait a long time to get listed. And even when you are listed, the web page where your site is listed may be buried so deep in the site that it is of no value what so ever.

Using reciprocal directories to build back links.

Reciprocal directories are a little better than free directories. Your site submission is more readily accepted because of the reciprocal link you are offering to the directory. So your waiting time for acceptance is shorter than for the free directories. However, just like for the free directories, the webmaster is at liberty to list your site anywhere in the directory. This, most of the time, means being buried so deep in the directory structure that you do not get any value for listing.

Using paid directories.

Using paid directories to build back links is the best way to build quality back links to your site. Before we get into how to build quality back links using this type of directory, lets look at the advantages in being listed in them.

a. Before a directory will even think of charging for listing it must have acquired some quality. Either through page rank, which is the most obvious due to the page rank bar, or through acceptance in the webmaster community. And most of these paid directories are being spidered (crawled) by the search engines regularly. Sometimes on a daily basis. So if you have a new site your chances of being picked up and indexed quickly by the search engines are very high indeed.

b. You can get to choose where your site is listed. Most of the time the webmaster will not change the page your site is listed in.

c. Your site could be picked up for listing in other new directories.

d. You can get some decent amount of traffic since you will have a featured or sponsored listing in the directory. This means your website will be at the top of the page where it is listed.

e. Your site will get page rank passed to it from the listing page if it has good page rank.

Okay lets build these back links. Firstly bear in mind that there are thousands of directories on the web. They are also of different kinds, There are niche and general directories. So if any one directory doesn’t satisfy you search out another.

1. Search out the directories with the least price and highest page rank at that price.

2. Browse to the page (category or sub category) you want to submit your site to and make sure it has a good page rank. For a page rank 6 directory, you could typically find a page rank 4 page to list your site in. If no page or category exist for a good page rank, move to another directory.

3. Choose featured listing without additional listings. Offer for featured listings with additional pages are normal higher in price than for directories without. The additional listings will not add any value in terms of page rank to your additional listed pages because most of the time the pages where you are allowed to list additional pages have zero page rank. Since you aim to build many back links through paid directories you do not want to waste your money.

4. Some directories offer permanent listing and yearly listing. Choose permanent listing so your credit card is not charged every year. Both provide same value.

5. Make sure there are not more than 20 to 30 other outgoing links on the page you will listed in. Having many outgoing links on the page dilutes the page rank passed to your site.

General web directories are the most common type of directories that are familiar by the webmasters. There are thousands of general web directories on the internet. General web directories refer to directories that have accept all kinds of websites for inclusion. It has a large variety of categories so that you will always find a category to submit your directory.

There are a lot of general web directories that have a high pagerank and receive a large volume of traffic. Normally, directories with a high pagerank have strict submission rules and harder to get listed in . For example, the IPL web directory only accept submission through email. Dmoz is the most famous general web directories on the internet. Every day, thousands of webmasters submit their sites to Dmoz. It is hard to get listed in Dmoz because of the strict submission rule. The editors that work on Dmoz are volunteer so it takes a long time to wait for your site to be reviewed and approved.

Niche directories are directories that accept submission of website of a certain niche. There are many kinds of niche directories including business, shopping and etc. If you submit other types of websites, it won’t be accepted. The backlinks from niche directories are more valuable than those listed in the general directories. This is because the backlinks in the niche directories are relevant to the niche of your website. The more relevant the site that links to you, the higher the quality of the backlink will be. It is easy to find niche directories to submit your site.

To find a niche directory, you simply enter the keyword “niche keyword + niche directories” into the search engine. For example, if you own a business directory, you can enter the keyword “business niche directories” or “list of business niche directories” in the search engine. Many directory websites maintain a list of niche directories. Examples of directory websites that offer niche directories list include Web-Directories.ws.

Before submitting to the directories, you should read the submission guidelines. Most of the directories have a page that dealt with the submission guidelines. The submission guidelines will inform you about the dos and don’ts when submitting your site to the directory. The site that you submit must be family friendly. It should not promote illegal material such as adult, or hatred contain. Mirror sites will never be approved by the directory. You should only submit your site to once. Submitting your site too many times will cause the moderator to delete it from the database. Sometimes, you will forget that you submit to a directory and resubmit again.

To prevent resubmitting your website, you can compile a list of directories by using Microsoft Excel. Whenever you successfully submitted to a site, you can make a mark beside it, for example highlighting it. In this way, you will know which directory you have submitted to. The description should consist of sentences that are written in good grammar. The description should briefly describe the site in 2 – 5 sentences. It should not contain too many words. The description is mend to be short so that the visitor can quickly skim through it. If the description is too long, it will be difficult for the visitors to read it.
